OK, so as a little Bank Hol treat, the hubbie and I reluctantly left our post festive hibernation for some culture in the shape of the Rene Gruau exhibition at Somerset House. WOW...what a complete unconscious inspiration Gruau's work has had on my own illustrative technique! I have been aware of but never really explored the work of Rene Gruau until now! I have always adored the Jules image (above) along with his other male illustrations for Dior. Such an inspiration!!! The use of simple line, negative space and suggestive compositions hold such parallels with my own illustrations...so of course now I am a massive fan! Go check it out ASAP as I think there is only one week left! Loves it!
So must go find myself a print!
